Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment, cleared by the FDA, that delivers red light to a person’s skin and cells. Red light is similar to infrared light, except it is visible. Red light therapy dates back more than 30 years when scientists used it to grow plants in space.

How it Works

The intense light from red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) promoted growth and photosynthesis of plant cells. Red light technology also promotes a natural photobiochemical reaction in humans which is similar to the photosynthesis promoted in plants which improves the mitochondria. With more energy, cells can function more efficiently, rejuvenate themselves, and repair damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Red Light Therapy give me a tan?
No. Red light is completely different than the ultraviolet light used in tanning beds, which also makes it safer. Traditional tanning beds use ultraviolet radiation to kickstart the production of melanin in the body, gradually turning skin pigment darker. Red light therapy devices use light energy instead of ultraviolet rays, which puts you at a lower risk of developing skin cancer, premature wrinkles, eye damage, and additional problems attributed to prolonged exposure to UV rays.
What other benefits does Red Light Therapy have over a tanning bed?
Although traditional tanning beds stimulate vitamin D synthesis, regular treatment can lead to long-term skin damage. The UV rays penetrate the skin’s deepest layers, damaging dermis connective tissue and collagen in the process. After treatment, the skin might appear dehydrated or inflamed. Red light therapy is designed for skin rejuvenation. Your skin transforms the light energy it absorbs into cellular energy. The process bolsters collagen production, which improves elasticity and makes your skin appear more youthful. Additionally, the ultraviolet rays from a traditional tanning bed are much stronger than what the sun emits. Red light therapy does not have UVA or UVB rays, so you won’t feel as if you have a sunburn after treatment.

Does Red Light Therapy produce heat?

Red light therapy emits extremely low levels of heat. It does not burn the skin or cause any pain.
Do I need to bring sunglasses or any special, protective eyewear?
No. We will provide special goggles designed specifically for red light therapy.
Can I wear makeup or lotion while receiving Red Light Therapy?
Any area of your skin that is receiving red light therapy should be free from lotion, oils, and makeup. Nova Vita Wellness Centers will provide face wipes for makeup removal if needed.
How often should I use Red Light Therapy?
The frequency of sessions depends on your wellness goals. The recommended use is 2 to 3 times per week for approximately 6 to 12 weeks depending on the type and severity of your condition. If you are using red light therapy to treat a specific condition, then the severity of the condition and any other wellness solutions used in conjunction with red light therapy will determine how often you should receive treatment.
